MRD Acceptance Study

This plot shows the breakdown of nu-mu interactions that take place within the fiducial volume of the Water Cerenkov detector in the 2km detector geant4 simulation. All values are taken from the MC truth information (ie. not from simulated detector response). The plot was made by scaling a histogram of 150,000 neutrino interactions up to 1 year's worth of interactions (~1500,000 interactions), and using a Pion/Kaon parent weight table based on the parent neutrino's energy.

We can clearly see from the plot that a significant number of Kaon-type muons pass right through the WC detector to be captured by the Muon Range Detector. Thus, for a proper study of the energy of parent Kaon neutrinos an MRD is required.

Things to do:

1. Add steel barrier to WC.

2. Improve WLS (wavelength shifter) model.
